Remember, remember the 1st of November

The first global police Tweetathon took place this March, number 2 is coming up three weeks today – 1st November 2013.

The Tweetathons are organised by Lauri Stevens (@lawscomm) over at ConnectedCops.

In March, over 220 law enforcement agencies  took to Twitter  to tweet about their work.

The hashtag #poltwt trended from New Zealand west to Australia, across Europe and then from the east coast of North America  in a wave across to the west coast.

There were 48,482 tweets in 23 different languages – reaching over 11 million people.

Here’s a map of everyone that took part:

What’s the point?

The purpose of the tweetathon is to draw attention to the work that police officers do all over the world and to promote the police’s use of social media.

Individual forces set their own objectives for participating in the Tweetathon including:

  • Showcasing a new initiative
  • Engaging with local communities
  • Driving up their online audience
  • Seeking information on unsolved crimes

Get involved

Getting involved is easy.

Email Lauri

In the message, indicate your Twitter name, your agency name, your physical address (so we can accurately place you on the Google map).

If you plan to tweet as an individual officer, give us all of the above and also let us know you’re tweeting as yourself.

All emails should come from your government/police address. (This weeds out any police impersonators).

Let’s see if we can get 100 British police tweeters participating this time.
